Philly Cheesesteak Nachos

In case you don’t know -- my husband, Steve, and I are HUGE Philadelphia sports fans.  We are currently living in South Carolina so we don’t get to many game in Pennsylvania, but we really enjoy planning to see our teams play down south.  Case-in-point, we are planning on heading to New Orleans this year to see the Eagles play -- what’s better than our favorite team playing in an awesome {food} city that we’ve always wanted to visit?!
Anyway, whenever we make it back up to Philly, we always have to indulge in a little of what they are know for, namely, Crab Fries {wow-ness} and the Philly Cheesesteak.  Last month when the Flyers were still in the playoffs {bummer...} we had some people over to watch the game.  I was planning on making cheesesteaks for dinner until I stumbled upon this recipe from the Food Network.  It’s not exactly the most photogenic meal, but these nachos were extremely tasty {and gone in about 4 minutes}.  They are very easy to make so think about this unique play on nachos for your next party or game-day treat!

Philly Cheesesteak Nachos
1 (13 oz) bag tortilla chips
8 oz jar Cheese Whiz
1 (10.5oz) box Steak Umm
2 large onions, sliced and caramelized Click to learn how to caramelize onions!
hot sauce
pickled jalapenos or hot peppers
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Spread tortilla chips in an oven-safe dish and bake chips for about 5 minutes or until hot and crispy.
  2. Meanwhile, empty contents of Cheese Whiz jar into a small saucepan over medium-low heat and stir until warm.
  3. In a frying pan over medium-high heat, break up Steak Umm steaks and cook until browned
  4. Remove chips from oven and top with caramelized onions, cooked steak and drizzle with Cheese Whiz.  Serve with hot sauce and peppers if desired.
